Size:

Species Range

  • Present across much of India, extending from east to near Rauualpindi, Pakistan.
  • Present also in Sri Lanka and the island of Rameswaram.

Gender

  • Males are predominantly green, leading to a yellower hue in the vicinity of the mantle as in the lower body.
  • The head is colored plum, with a bluish-purple hue visible at the bottom of the cheeks.
  • The chin is black and a wide line of the same color stretches across the cheeks bottom.
  • The rump is also teal. The longer central feathers of the tail are blue with white highlights extremes.
  • The beak is pale orange in the upper jaw and brownish black on the bottom.
  • Grayish legs.
  • Yellowish white iris.
  • The female can be distinguished from the males because their gray heads witch are more pure hue of gray on the forehead and on the cheeks.

youth

  • Their greenhead, which are sometimes nuanced gray around the cheeks.
  • After its first molt, the juveniles resemble adult females as far as color is concerned.
