Species Range

  • North of New Guinea, extending from Geelvink Bay, West Irian and to the far east of Astrolabe Bay.

Gender

  • Similar appearance of males and females.
  • The forehead, frontal part of cheeks and neck are yellow.
  • The rest of the plumage is mostly a deep olive-brown color; breast feathers with yellow edges.
  • Nape and neck feathers have yellow streaks. Thighs and lower wings are yellow.
  • High back, rump and lower part of tail are violet-blue.
  • Bend of wing is bright golden-yellow.
  • Primaries are black with yellow patches.
  • There is also a light yellow wash on the external tail feathers, which are otherwise a bronze-yellow color.
  • Black beak.
  • Black feet.
  • Dark brown iris, with a yellow ring in the center.
  • Females are identical, but apparently they may lack the yellow patches on the tail feathers.
  • Can be recognized by their dark brown iris
