Species Range

North of New Guinea, extending from Geelvink Bay, West Irian and to the far east of Astrolabe Bay.

Gender

Similar appearance of males and females.
The forehead, frontal part of cheeks and neck are yellow.
The rest of the plumage is mostly a deep olive-brown color; breast feathers with yellow edges.
Nape and neck feathers have yellow streaks. Thighs and lower wings are yellow.
High back, rump and lower part of tail are violet-blue.
Bend of wing is bright golden-yellow.
Primaries are black with yellow patches.
There is also a light yellow wash on the external tail feathers, which are otherwise a bronze-yellow color.
Black beak.
Black feet.
Dark brown iris, with a yellow ring in the center.
Females are identical, but apparently they may lack the yellow patches on the tail feathers.
Can be recognized by their dark brown iris
