Species Range

  • Ceram, Haruku and Saparua Islands, part of the Maluku Group in Indonesia. It has also been sighted in the neighboring island of Ambon.

Gender

  • Similar in the coloring of their plumage.
  • Males have a different appearance, from a light pink (almost white) to a darker pink.
  • Crest feathers, large and wide, are a pink-salmon color, curved to the back when erect.
  • The lower surface of the tail feathers is a combination of pink and orange-yellow.
  • The bare skin of the eye ring is white, on occasion with blue hues.
  • Black beak.
  • Dark gray feet.
  • Black iris.
  • Females are usually recognized by the dark brown coloring of their iris.

youth

  • Similar to the adults, but with dark gray iris when they leave the nest.
