CACATÚA GALERITA TRITON

• Found in New Guinea and surrounding islands. The Aru Island, and parts of northern and eastern Australia. They were also introduced to Seramlaut and Goramlaut, Indonesia, the Palau Islands and New Zealand.

• Similar in the coloring of their plumage.
• The white color predominates on males, with a light yellow wash toward the tips of the plumage of the cheeks and neck.
• The auricular area is strongly marked with yellow, giving an appearance of lime color in that area.
• Crest feathers are thin of a brlght yellow color. Crests curved forward.
• The eye ring is a bare white skin with a large wash of yellow on the lower sides of the body and the tail feathers.
• Dark gray beak.
• Dark gray feet.
• Black-brown iris.
• Females can be usually recognized by their red-brown iris.
• The difference is more visible when seen with proper light

• They resemble the adults, but may show some gray patches on the crown, back and wings, and have a lighter color beak when they being to grow feathers. Brown iris.

C. g. galerita triton 

• Found in eastern and southeastern Australia. Its range is from Cape York Peninsula in northern Queensland to the south, up to Mount Isa, Richmond, Blackall and Cunumulla in the west. Has also been sighted on the overseas islands, including a few in Torres Strait. In New South Wales, the western limit of its range, seems to be the Darling River, while it has also been sighted in most parts of Victoria forest. This subspecies has been identified in Tasmania, but is not found in the extreme east; in the continent it extends as far as the extreme west of southeastern South Australia. Also found in Kangaroo Island. It was introduced to the area around Perth, in Western Australia, as well as to New Zealand.
